AMBER & LEONARDO – A UNIQUE EXHIBITION INSPIRED BY THE RENAISSANCE MASTER AND AMBER COMBINED WITH A FASHION SHOW

AMBER & LEONARDO is an exhibition inspired by the projects of the eminent artist Leonardo da Vinci. And Baltic amber, which connected the European continent – also with distant corners of the world – during the Renaissance and today.

For the exhibition, organizers – Wojciech Kalandyk, ART7 (initiator) and Giedymin Jabłoński (curator) – invited artists from all over the world: both those who had previously used amber in their works and those who had never handled it before. Their task was to prepare statements inspired by the theme “Amber and Leonardo“. Thanks to the invitation to this exhibition, I had the unique pleasure of presenting my works alongside those of over 20 artists, including such recognized ones as Herman Hermsen, Ruudt Peters, Ramon Puig Cuyas, Judy McCaig, Jarosław Westermark, Sławomir Fijałkowski, and Aleksander Gliwiński.

Besides the exhibition, the evening’s attraction was also a special fashion show titled Homo Vitruvianus, kept in the spirit of Renaissance associations. The costumes – styled after the Renaissance era – were designed by the well-known Tri-City designer Magdalena Arłukiewicz, complemented by the jewelry works of the exhibition participants.

The opening of the AMBER & LEONARDO exhibition was accompanied by a special ceremony of naming a natural piece of amber – Leonardo Gedanensis (Leonardo from Gdańsk) to commemorate the project. It is the first piece of amber to be given a name. The piece is unique – it is distinguished by the so-called divine proportion, i.e., the ratio of height to width reflects the famous ‘golden ratio’, so valued by Leonardo da Vinci.
